MEYSARI

Meysari Wine: A tradition rooted in being the birthplace of wine,
crafted with the finest cutting-edge European techniques.

The winery producing the highly acclaimed Meysari wine is situated in a mountainous region, 850 metres above sea level, approximately a three-hour drive from the capital, Baku. The company’s name, Sylvan, derives from the historic name of the country and translates to ‘where the lion lives’, symbolically referring to a great man as a lion. The word ‘Mey’ in Meysari means ‘intoxicated’, while ‘Sari’ translates to ‘head’, reflecting the region’s long-standing tradition of favouring wine over tea since ancient times.

Established in 2014 under the guidance of French winemaker Jean Montanet, the winery spans 350 hectares, encompassing farmland, a winery, and a restaurant, with a luxury resort hotel currently under construction on a hilltop. Grapes, including the indigenous Bayan Syrah variety used for white wines, are hand-picked and transported in 120-kilogram baskets. Using 56 state-of-the-art tanks equipped with advanced European technology, the winery produces 700,000 bottles of organic wine annually, 80% of which is red wine.

History of Meysari Wine

Azerbaijan has long been renowned for the quality of its traditional vineyards and wine production. In recent years, the region has entered a new phase of development, supported by special attention from the government.

Shamakhi has long been one of Azerbaijan’s foremost winemaking centres. High-quality wines are crafted from the abundant vineyards of the village of Meysari.

A new chapter has begun in the development of viticulture in Shamakhi. Shirvan Wines LLC, Azerbaijan’s sole producer of organic bio-wine, was founded in 2014 with the establishment of a vineyard in the region.

In 2017, a winery covering an area of 4,398 square metres was constructed within the grounds of the Shirvan Wines LLC viticulture and winemaking complex.

The facility collaborates with world-renowned wine companies to produce wines that adhere to international standards. All the equipment installed in the processing plant is manufactured by ‘Pera Perenz’.

With an annual production capacity of 1.4 million litres, the complex’s primary aim is to preserve the natural qualities and high standards of its wines. To achieve this, all grapes grown in the vineyards are harvested exclusively by hand.

No chemicals are used in the cultivation of the grapes, making Shirvan Wines LLC the only organic wine producer in Azerbaijan to hold the prestigious ‘Ecocert’ certification.

A fusion of rich tradition and modern technology, Shirvan Wines are crafted from local and international grape varieties grown in the village of Meysari, distinguished by their unique taste and aroma.

Set amidst breathtaking scenery, the complex features a restaurant, terrace, car park, guest house, children’s play area, wine museum, and other facilities designed to enhance the guest experience.
